Decontamination of large equipment and vehicles

Vehicles are treated using wet chemical decontamination in a three-stage process consisting of pre-treatment, main treatment and post-treatment. During these processes, high-performance units from Kärcher treat the entire surface of the vehicle, including the underbody.

The three steps of vehicle decontamination

Pre-treatment of vehicle decontamination

Pre-treatment

During pre-treatment, coarse dirt is removed from the surface of the vehicle. Cold water pressure washers are mostly used here, to gain better cleaning results and reduce the amount of water used. This removal of coarse dirt also gets rid of CBRN contaminants adhering to it. This process already considerably reduces contamination, and makes sure the surface of the vehicle is ideally prepared for the main treatment to come.

Main-treatment of vehicle decontamination

Main treatment

Decontamination agents are only applied in the main treatment phase. The suitable agent for the type of contaminant is selected and applied to the vehicle as a foam or thin film. A high-pressure pump or special application pumps are generally used for this. In some cases, thermal energy is used in addition to improve the decontamination result.

Post-treatment of vehicle decontamination

Post-treatment

During post-treatment, reaction products or particles from the main treatment process, encased by the treatment agent, are washed off the vehicle surface. Pressure washers are used for this  too, to improve the cleaning result and reduce the amount of water used. In some cases, thermal energy is used additionally to improve the decontamination result.

Would you like to decontaminate your vehicles using just one device?

With the MPDS 2, you can carry out pre-treatment, main treatment and post-treatment simultaneously with a single machine. This device is the most compact complete unit available on the market for the decontamination of vehicles and surfaces, and can be used with practically all kinds of commercially available decon agents.

Some advantages:

  • Diesel-driven, completely independent from the power supply
  • Simultaneous operation of up to three lances, enabling pre-treatment, main treatment and post-treatment all at the same time
  • No additional equipment required for vehicle decontamination
  • Integrated generator up to 2.5 kW for external use
  • Electronic status monitoring
  • Gearbox, no belt drive, long service life and high reliability
