Civil defence and disaster control: Hand-over to the German Red Cross of the first complete system for hasty and thorough decontamination at the place of accident
Schwaikheim, December 2011 – A capability gap has now been bridged by the local unit of the German Red Cross (DRK) in Ludwigsburg. Since the beginning of December, the equipment of the DRK in Ludwigsburg includes a DRDS 1, a complete system for hasty and thorough decontamination on site. A delegation with the two deputy district heads of on-call emergency services, Thorsten Fritz and Steffen Schassberger, did not want to miss the opportunity to collect their first system personally at Kärcher Futuretech in Schwaikheim.

The DRDS 1 is an easily transportable all-in-one system for the immediate decontamination of 1 to 2 persons. Wrapping the injured person in a CBRN rescue blanket stops the intake of any further chemicals via the skin and prevents contaminants from being spread. The contaminated person is then lifted into a special rotating device for persons, in which he or she can be decontaminated very gently from all sides and is at the same time protected against being seen and the effects of the weather. A second CBRN rescue blanket is used for the further transportation of the decontaminated person, e.g. to a hospital.
Kärcher Futuretech is completely dedicated to the requirements of public customers such as armed forces, civil defence and disaster control organisations and fire-fighting services. Among other things, its product range includes mobile catering and field camp systems, drinking water purification systems and systems for the decontamination of vehicles, equipment and persons.
