Flexibility combined with high-performance results - Kärcher Futuretech delivers a containerised full decontamination system to the Swedish Army
Winnenden, June 2006 – The Swedish Army relies on the latest DECOCONTAIN generation. The second containerised DECOCONTAIN 3000 GDS full decontamination system, which is exactly adjusted to the specific needs of the Swedish Armed Forces found its way to Umea in Northern Sweden in Spring this year. The DECOCONTAIN 3000 GDS is designed for the application of revolutionary non-aqueous decontamination agents such as GDS 2000, and forms the technical basis for the rapid deployment of a decontamination site.

Kärcher Futuretech Product Manager Hans-Joachim Töpfer describes the decisive advantages of this system for the troop: "The DECOCONTAIN 3000 GDS represents the current state of the art in its performance class. Due to its modular construction, this decontamination system can be readily and quickly put into operation and can be used flexibly in accordance with the actual requirements". Furthermore, the system’s range of operation can be extended by an appropriate "Winter Kit" and the application of additional highly effective decontamination agents. From now on, a mission at very low temperatures can be carried out without problems because the revolutionary GDS 2000 makes reliable decontamination of chemical warfare agents possible even under extreme winter conditions, which are not a rare occurrence in Scandinavia. In addition, the decontamination agents designed for the DECOCONTAIN 3000 GDS concept reliably ensure that the stringent requirements of environmental protection are met.

The DECOCONTAIN 3000 GDS is equipped with a high-performance central genset (approx. 57 kVA) and an insulated heatable 3000 litre water tank to ensure independent operation to a large extent. The capacity of the DECOCONTAIN 3000 GDS can be illustrated by the possibility to simultaneously decontaminate of up to 100 persons and up 12 medium-sized armoured vehicles or up to 20 other vehicles in only one hour. Alternatively, in the same time span, the system is able to decontaminate a road section with a length of 600 metres.

In order to create the conditions for the proper use of the DECOCONTAIN 3000 GDS, the expert team working for Kärcher Futuretech Product Manager Hans-Joachim Töpfer trained the Swedish specialist staff directly on site for several days. "The practical training on the ‘hardware’ has proven to be optimal", says Hans-Joachim Töpfer in describing his satisfaction about the mission in Sweden. The decontamination systems were delivered together with an initial package of decontamination agents and spare parts. A maintenance agreement for a qualified after-sales service is another component of this contract.

The two containerised DECOCONTAIN 3000 GDS represent a new generation of high-quality professional decontamination systems which are now available with the Swedish Armed Forces. In order to carry out complex decontamination tasks under the expected possible mission conditions, the procurement agency of the Swedish Army (FMV) has foreseen the procurement of further DECOCONTAIN 3000 GDS decontamination systems. At present, many armed forces within the NATO and various arabic countries rely on DECOCONTAIN which can also be used for applications in the civilian sector.
