Kärcher Futuretech GmbH guarantees forward-looking technological solutions – also in the area of NBC-Defence
Winnenden, June 2005 - Alfred Kärcher GmbH & Co. KG in Winnenden, Baden-Württemberg, is acknowledged to be the largest manufacturer of high-pressure cleaning systems in the world. The company employs more than 5,800 people and has 33 subsidiaries all over the world. Its total turnover was 1,032 million Euro in 2004.
Apart from cleaning systems, the SGC (Sales Government Customers) Division takes care of to fulfilling the specific requirements of the armed forces, fire brigades, civil defence and disaster control organisations, homeland security services and international relief organisations. With the aim to further optimise the company structure and its efficiency for the benefit of its customers all over the world, the present SGC Division will become an independent company. The new "Kärcher Futuretech GmbH" will pursue its successful way also in the future.
Taking the concrete needs of its customers into consideration, the company develops, produces and delivers market-determining products also in the area of NBC defence. In the area of NBC protection systems, the company is able to offer the largest product range. In the last 10 years, more than 8,000 decontamination systems with different capacities were delivered to armed forces and civil defence organisations all over the world.
After the handover of the first serial system in January 2005, a highly mobile containerised compact decontamination system is available with the Federal German Armed Forces - the TEP 90 decontamination system. The TEP 90 decontamination system is particularly suitable for the international missions of the Bundeswehr within the framework of NATO. Technologically seen, the TEP 90 represents the state of the art in this specific area because it uses the most modern decontamination methods and agents. The TEP 90 decontamination system is highly mobile, can be deployed quickly and contains all components necessary for the mission-optimised accomplishment of thorough decontamination close to the contaminated troop.
The TEP 90 uses the most modern decontamination technologies and agents, e.g. the vacuum decontamination technology which has already been proven in the decontamination system for sensitive material, and the Decon Shuttle for the decontamination of the interiors of combat tanks, vehicle cabins, helicopters, transport aircraft, etc.
The performance spectrum of the TEP 90 includes the following main tasks:
The TEP 90 decontamination system is designed so that it can be used without any restriction at temperatures ranging from -30 °C to +49 °C. For the decontamination of the interiors of certain objects (e.g. tanks, helicopters, transport aeroplanes; plants, installations, etc.), a special, independently working system („Decon Shuttle“) is available. Using the highly efficient spray extraction method, the decontamination agents sprayed in the interior rooms are removed (sucked off) together with the contaminants immediately after application and practically without any residues, and transported to the tank for decontamination waste products, which is integrated into the Decon Shuttle.
Due to the enormously increased ecological consciousness in the past decades there has been an urgent need for environmentally compatible decontamination agents. Against this background, Kärcher has developed a new non-aqueous decontamination agent (GDS 2000; NATO supply no. 6850-12-366-1321) against chemical war-fare agents with significant advantages compared to the known decontamination agents. These are demonstrated in its considerably enhanced properties with regard to storage, handling, effectiveness, application and corrosivity as well as a clearly improved ecological behaviour. Compared to other decontaminants, GDS 2000 is produced industrially, available ready for use. It meets the requirements of water pollution class 1 (low hazard for water) and is biopogically degradable. The complete detoxification of a combat tank only requires 12 to 24 litres of GDS 2000. The high decontamination efficiency of GDS 2000 against all relevant chemical warfare agents (inluding those with thickeners) was verified in a large number of laboratory and field tests carried out by WISABC-SchutzBw and other independent test institutes.
WISABC-SchuzBw and Kärcher developed together a new N decontamination agent (RDS 2000 radioactive decontamination agent) for the Federal German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr). It is a liquid concentrate which contains all necessary components and can be applied using appropriate application systems (heated high-pressure cleaners/steam jet cleaners; decontamination sprayers, etc.) in service with the German Bundeswehr and other armed forces. RDS 2000 is biologically degradable and also meets the requirements of water pollution class 1. It is sufficiently stable with regard to storage and ensures an optimal combination of conventional cleaning, decontamination effect and troop-friendly handling when being applied.
The newly founded Kärcher Futuretech GmbH will guarantee forwarding-looking technological solutions for the Kärcher customers all over the world – also in the area of NBC defence.
